Rapper, producer and artist, Swizz Beatz might just be in trouble since the government stated that they were officially looking into his role as CEO of Megaupload.com, a company that was shut down for piracy back in January. Government officials are attempting to bring the case into trial, since the company’s top executives were arrested January 19 following copyright infringement and racketeering charges.

After being silent for months, Swizz Beatz finally addressed the situation, and defended his position. In an interview with AlLindstorm.com, he stated:

“I’m a fan of music. I’m a fan of people that work hard. I would never be a part of anything that’s taking from an artist when I fight so hard to give so much to the artists. I was giving the artists 90% of they s**t. Sometimes when something is so powerful and people can’t control it that type of attack happens. You see that happen with multiple things in life. Things that are so powerful, they get shut down unexplainably.”

Reports said Megaupload.com cost the entertainment industry over $500 million in lost revenue as they generated over $175 million in their illegal proceeds from copyrighted works. However, Swizz Beatz defended his character to the max:

“I’m in the business of inspiring people. And I can’t be in the business of inspiring people if I’m so-called robbing my friends. And my friends know that, that’s why ain’t nobody speak out and say any clown s**t about me. They know my character and they know what it is.”

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter proved that he can bring the swag anywhere, and a commercial is no exception. In the recent Duracell Powermat commercial, rap mogul Jay Z makes a surprise appearance towards the end of the ad.

The commercial follows a busy New Yorker who keeps his phone charged throughout the day using the Powermat. While at the club, he laid his phone on the table side-by-side with another phone. A phone rings, and the young man reaches out to pick it up, but stops midway as he checked the caller ID that reads “B.” It turns out that it belongs to Jay-Z, swooping in to retrieve his phone and answer the call from his superstar wife, Beyonce.

The one-minute ad promotes the 24 Hour Power System, which is a portable device that helps smartphone users to “stay powered 24/7” while on the go. Part of the commercial was shot in Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in New York City, which is one of the very first establishments to have the wireless hot spot available.

Jay-Z and Duracell Powermat Partnership

In January, Jay-Z signed a deal with Duracell Powermat as an investment partner, as well as being the face and voice for “Wireless Power Nation,” the initiative for a wireless charging system that will be installed in public venues across the country. He said in an official press release:

I believe in the future of wireless energy and I believe that Duracell Powermat is the company to bring on the revolution. I’m partnering with Duracell Powermat because they’re providing the solutions for the future.

Meanwhile, Duracell Powermat wanted someone who can reach a digital-driven generation, and CEO Ron Rabinowitz said teaming with the “Empire State of Mind” rapper was an obvious choice. He stated:

We chose Jay-Z because he represents power. His music speaks to an entire generation.

Since we are living in a fast-paced lifestyle while “mobile devices have become essential tools in business, entertainment and managing our social lives” (as the rapper/entrepreneur said), Rabinowitz assured that the revolutionary technology is pretty simple and convenient.

All they will need to do is put their phone on the table, same thing they normally do. The only difference is that now, their smartphones will get charged from the table.

The Powermat is available for $99 at select major NYC retailers and online. National retail distribution, on the other hand, is slated for the fall.
